HCCH Update: Conclusions & Recommendations from First Special Commission meeting for Hague Child Support Convention

The Hague Conference on Private International Law held a meeting of the Special Commission to discuss the practical operation of the Hague Child Support Convention from May 17-19, 2022 in The Hague, Netherlands (with a hybrid option).

The object of the Hague Child Support Convention is to "ensure the effective international recovery of child support and other forms of family maintenance" through
a) establishing a comprehensive system of co-operation between the authorities of the
Contracting States;
b) making available applications for the establishment of maintenance decisions;
c) providing for the recognition and enforcement of maintenance decisions; and
d) requiring effective measures for the prompt enforcement of maintenance decisions.

In the United States, the Department of Health and Human Services serves as the U.S. Central Authority for the Hague Child Support Convention.
